Hello students and friends of Aquaculture. The staff is back at school today and we are happy to report both the school and the Catherine Moore are just fine. The building did not flood and our generator kept the Aqua lab up and running until the power was restored. Thank you for your concern and we hope to see you soon. |

One of the biology classes conducted an otter trawl on the Catherine Moore this morning and we found many examples of different phyla including chordates (porgy, flounder, silversides, a sea robin), many arthropods (hermit crabs, mud crabs) and also this beautiful mollusk! |

On Friday, June 15, the last of the juvenile lobsters were released into the Sound as well as the juveniles raised at the Sound School in New Haven. Students from both schools assisted the staff in transferring the lobsters from the lab to the Catherine Moore and also in using the ROV to release the approximately 200 lobsters to the rocky bottom. Our own "Captain" Ken Tober made sure the little guys were off to a good start by strapping on his scuba gear and helping them along. Congratulations to Mrs. Turner and her students for leading this successful project. |
The first 50 young lobsters raised from eggs in our Aqua Lab have been released into Long Island Sound! Watch the youtube video! Cut and paste into your browser:

Thank you APTSSO for hosting a wonderful event to thank Kathy Hefferle for her seven years of dedicated service as the APTSSO president. Staff and parents enjoyed the view of the Catherine Moore while also raising funds to honor her namesake with a monument at her resting place. We at Aqua are so blessed to have such caring and wonderful parents! Thank you all and thank you Kathy! |
