Dear Parent or Guardian:

Welcome to the 2014 – 2015 school year! At Read School we value our families and community relationships. We understand the importance of working together to ensure that your child has a positive and rewarding educational experience. Our primary focus is to keep our Read School family safe, and this includes your child, school staff, family members and visitors.

The following outlines some important things you need to know this school year.

MORNING ARRIVAL

School hours are arranged in two groups:
Grades 5 – 8: 7:50 a.m. – 2:20 p.m. (Full Day) 7:50 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (One Session Day / Early Dismissal) Cafeteria doors will open for students at 7:40 a.m. daily A child who arrives after 8:05 a.m. is considered late and will need a late pass
Grades K – 4: 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (Full Day) 8:30 – 12:40 p.m. (One Session Day / Early Dismissal) Cafeteria doors will open for students at 8:20 a.m. daily Teachers will meet their students in the cafeteria at the start of school. Students who arrive earlier than 8:20 a.m. must be supervised by a parent or guardian Students must not walk to school alone If your child has an older sibling in grades 5 – 8, he or she may arrive at school early with the older sibling Any child who arrives to school late (after 8:45 a.m.) must report to the office for a late pass. The child must be accompanied by an adult to get a late pass and sign in.
Pre-K Students: Students should arrive at 8:30 a.m. daily Pre-K teachers will greet students at the front entrance Students should be signed in by a parent or guardian each morning.
Please do not leave your car in the Fire Lane located in front of the school.This lane is reserved for emergency personnel.

DISMISSAL

In order to achieve safe and orderly dismissal routines, students are dismissed in two waves: Grades 5 – 8 ~ 2:20 p.m. Grades PK – 4 ~ 3:00 p.m.
Parents and guardians picking up a child at dismissal should wait under the canopy area when students are dismissed. Pre-K students will be walked outside to meet parents and guardians.
Students in grades PK – 4 will not be dismissed between 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. except for the following reasons: Family emergency, an appointment (written documentation must be provided), administrator’s approval

VISITING READ SCHOOL

Read School welcomes visitors. All guests visiting Read School must enter through the front door and report to the main office to sign in. All visitors will receive a Visitor’s Pass. This policy is designed to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Any guest without a Visitor’s Pass will be directed to the main office.

READ SCHOOL’S AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM: LIGHTHOUSE

Read School has an excellent afterschool program, called Lighthouse Program, serving students in grades K – 8. Lighthouse runs daily, Monday through Friday. Lighthouse does not run during One Session/Early Dismissal Days. Applications for Lighthouse are available in the main office. Please direct questions to Mr. Carpenter, grade 3 teacher and Lighthouse Site Coordinator. He is available by email (kcarpenter@bridgeportedu.net) or daily after 3:00 p.m.

EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION

All parents and guardians must provide Read School with current emergency contact information. Please update these numbers throughout the school year, especially if your family moves or the phone numbers change. Emergency information should include: Family’s home address, Three or more telephone numbers to be used for emergency purposes.
