Lee Martins - All State Soccer 2007
Lee Mayders Martins a graduating senior this year was the most feared player in the FCIAC during my 2 years as Coach of Central High Schools Varsity Soccer team.

Lee’s speed, skills, and knowledge of the game caused every team that we played to put a defender on him at all times. He was often double teamed, and one time that I remember had 5 opposing players on him, and still managed to maintain possession and get off a powerful shot. His abilities as a player made it exciting to watch him and admire his style of performance. The Greenwich Coach said “Coach, I’ll take him with a prosthetic leg.”

During Lee’s 2 years with me he scored 39 goals and had 21 assists. He was the complete soccer player with outstanding skills in dribbling, shooting, passing, heading and trapping. His explosive first move frustrated other teams and caused them to yell at their own players for not staying on him. Lee was a Captain who had great leadership skills on the field during games. Official’s commented on his skills and ability to control the players on the field during games.

Lee would use his tremendous skills in practice often times to have the players laugh at themselves when he fakes them out with a move. I always enjoyed how the players responded with laughter and good sportsmanship when he did this. Lee always came back either with a smile or a handshake.

Lee’s accolades include All-FCIAC West Team, ALL-FCIAC, All-State both his Junior and Senior year. Lee was selected to play in the Senior Bowl, (an All-Star team made up of graduating Seniors in the State). Lee showed his greatness on the field moving effortlessly and scoring a goal.

Lee will be attending Herkimer Community College in the fall of ’07. Herkimer has won the National title 6 of the last 10 years. Coach Pepe Aragon is looking forward to having Lee join the Herkimer Soccer team.
