The school year is now well underway, and I’d like to say a whole-hearted “thank you!” to the Thomas Hooker community for making me feel welcome. Our goal this year is to achieve success through relationships, and I am inspired by the relationships I already see being built. Our mission, as always, is the academic achievement of all children, and we firmly believe that children achieve most when their classmates, teachers, and families work together. For this reason, your child’s teacher wants to hear from you whenever concerns or successes arise, and my door is always open to you, as well. Our goals are ambitious, but when we work together, they are possible.
I also want to remind you of the importance of attendance to your child’s academic success. We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. But, we also know that when students miss too much school— regardless of the reason – it can cause them to fall behind academically. Your child is less likely to succeed if he or she is chronically absent, which means missing 18 or more days over the course of the school year. It adds up quickly - that’s only two days a month! Research shows:
We don’t want your child to fall behind in school and get discouraged. Please ensure that your child attends school every day and arrives on time. Remember, we want to help, so please contact your child’s teacher or the counselor for advice if he or she is struggling! Together we can build a plan for success.
With strong relationships and consistent attendance, your child is set up for an excellent school year. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact me personally. I look forward to meeting you, if I have not already.
