Dear Beardsley Parents and Families,

It is my pleasure and honor to welcome you back to Beardsley School for the 2014-15 school year.  I trust that you all had a healthy, happy and restful summer and that you were able to take advantage of all of the wonderful opportunities that our city and surrounding communities have to offer.

Beardsley School is committed to providing a strong academic program in which students are actively engaged in their own learning through rigorous instruction designed to promote high student achievement and growth.  We firmly believe that parents and families play an active and important role in your students’ education and we welcome you as partners and invite you to volunteer your time and talents to our school.

This year will bring some changes and some new faces to our school.  We sadly say good-bye to Mrs. Vecchiarelli who has decided to retire, to Ms. Dunnaville who is moving to Fairchild Wheeler High School and to Mrs. Simpson who will be at Thomas Hooker School.  We wish them the best as they begin the next phase of their lives.  We welcome Mrs. Christine Spinella to grade two, Mrs. Vivian Rivera as our English as a Second Language Teacher, Ms. Michelle Afonso as our school psychologist and Ms. Lashonda Commodore as our Literacy Coach.  Mrs. Varese will be working at both Beardsley and Thomas Hooker Schools as the Numeracy Coach.  Mrs. Simek has assumed the position of Instructional Interventionist.  Other teachers who will have new grade level assignments are Mr. Pacelli, who will move to grade two, Mrs. Fuchs who will be in grade four, Ms. Hackett who will teach grade five and Mrs. Wilder who will now be in kindergarten.  I am extremely confident and excited that these teachers will bring excitement and rigor to their new assignments and continue to challenge and nurture your students.

You will receive your summer packet consisting of welcome letters, classroom assignments, supply lists and other pertinent information in early August.  Please remember that Beardsley School students are expected to wear our uniform daily, and that our colors are white collared tops and navy bottoms.  The uniform policy will be monitored strictly this year so your cooperation and adherence to this policy is greatly appreciated.

I look forward to welcoming you all back in August.  Our first day of school is Thursday, August 28, and it will be a one session day.

Warm regards,

Sharon Pivirotto
