Dear Students, Families and Community Members,

On behalf of the faculty and staff at P. L. Dunbar, it is my pleasure to welcome you and your scholar to a new school year.  As I begin my second school year as Principal of P. L. Dunbar, I am excited and committed to making a positive difference in the lives of our scholars. We will accomplish this by setting high academic expectations for all and by providing support systems to assure they are met. Our school culture has changed dramatically through our PBIS implementation and our decisions are set upon a foundation of “the child is loved”. We have increased our focus of setting high standards for teacher performance, increased academic expectations for all scholars and engaging the community.

My past experience has shown me that it takes a team to help all students reach their maximum potential.  I ask that you join us and work collaboratively with the staff at Dunbar to provide an instructional program that is successful your scholar (s). The dedicated and effective faculty and staff at P. L. Dunbar will continue to encourage all students to set high goals for themselves and to reach for their dreams.

It is my hope that all students get involved in our school through athletics, music, drama, student leadership, community volunteerism and school activities and clubs. Working together, we can ensure that the students of Dunbar continue to achieve their highest potential.

A Message from the Assistant Principal

Welcome to the start of the 2014-2015 School Year

September 6, 2014

"When educating the minds of our youth, we must not forget to educate their hearts." - Dalai Lama

Dear Faculty and Staff,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to a new, exciting year at P.L. Dunbar School! I hope that the summer months have provided you with some rest, relaxation, and an opportunity to rejuvenate.  During the summer months we have been undergoing transition as we prepare to the open the doors for our scholars. This academic year we will continue to seek excellence in all we do. Our focus is all things academic, and the continued pursuit of stabilizing a climate and culture which maximizes learning for all students. We are welcoming a plethora of other dedicated educators to the P.L. Dunbar Family, and a new instructional model under the guidance of Cooperative Educational Services. Excellence is the standard for all of our work and our motivation is fueled by our main message “the child is loved”.

We will offer a wide variety of quality programs to meet the needs of each scholar. We have a highly qualified faculty to serve the academic needs of our scholars and a support staff who is here to help provide a safe and caring environment for each individual who is part of our school community.

Our school community will help provide the framework for individual and school success by constantly referring to following tenets:

§  All scholars, parents (guardians), school staff, and community must share responsibility and be engaged in the learning process for academic success.

§  Positive parental attitudes and involvement improve scholar success and increase scholar interest, motivation, and achievement.

§  Everyone associated with Dunbar School and its programs will be treated with respect at all times.

§  All students should be provided a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment.

§  Excellence is our expectation.

§  All P.L. Dunbar scholars can learn and achieve!

As we prepare to embark on a new beginning for the Dunbar scholars and community, I ask that in everything you do you remember, “Greater in on the way”.
