Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope you had a peaceful and restful summer full of reading and exercise!  As you may have heard, there are many changes in store this year at Curiale School. The first change is that we have been selected as the new principal and assistant principal of the school.  Prior to Curiale, Mr. Gustafson was the principal of a school in New York City for eight years, but he was born and raised in Bridgeport.  Mr. Planas also grew up in Bridgeport, taught in Bridgeport, and has been a math curriculum specialist for the last seven years.  We look forward to replicating the successes we have had in helping teachers and students excel.

Another big change this year is our acceptance in the Commission’s Network.  This will give us money to fund extra teachers and help reduce class size.  As part of the Commissioner’s Network, we are also extending the school day and the school year.  On a regular full-day schedule, the students will be in school for seven hours and five minutes. This means grades 6, 7 & 8 will start school at 8:00 a.m. and be dismissed at 3:05 p.m.  Grades Kindergarten – 5 will begin school at 8:45 a.m. and end at 3:50 p.m.  In addition to the longer school day we will have a longer school year.  Curiale School will have five extra days in June.  These days will be for enrichment programs like dance, art, sports, etc. that the students will find fun as well as educational.

All of these changes are intended to improve student learning, but we cannot do that without your support.  We need our parents and guardians to be an integral part of their children’s learning.  To help you understand how you can help, we will have Family Fridays for the first hour of school every Friday.  This is a time when you can see what is happening in your child’s class and learn ways to support the teacher.  As always, we encourage you to come to Back to School Night and report card conferences. You can also log on to Powerschool:

The PowerSchool website will allow you to see up to date attendance and grades of your child.  Please contact us if you need any assistance with PowerSchool.

The most important thing you can do to support your child’s learning is to have them come to school on time and ready to learn.  Make sure they are completing their homework and getting a good night’s sleep.  Check their bags every day, because we will send home many notices in August and September.

Thank you for all your support, and we look forward to a great year. Go Bulldogs!!!
