Our mission at Black Rock School is to engage all students as responsible and independent learners in a safe and collaborative environment where all children are valued and respected, and where literacy and numeracy learning is emphasized throughout the day in a variety of ways. Children are encouraged to practice reading and writing in order that they will become fluent and life-long learners. Our highly professional staff shares the philosophy that all children can learn and succeed in an environment that treasures their contributions and encourages learning at many levels. Our open-door policy offers parents a forum for conferencing and questions, as staff and administrators are willing to discuss matters of concern about their children. Our parent involvement plan includes on-site workshop formats that address topical issues such as parenting, family literacy, and continous discussions for improving the school environment. There will be assemblies each marking period. Our plan is to have a variety of programs which will help to display our students positive work habits, increase student achievement and attendance and to acknowledge the Student of the Month, Most Improved Student, Good Citizenship Awardee, and Perfect Attendance recipients during that time frame for every classroom. Special invitiations are to be sent to parents to attend and be a part of receivng the award with their child. We emphasize the importance of academic achievement to our students at Black Rock. We provide for ways for each child to develop socially and emotionally by offering meaningful opportunities for learning that build self-esteem and confidence that transcend the classroom. Simply put: Black Rock Students and Staff will always emphasize RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY through our academic and social successes.
